My elders raised me on nutritious well balanced meals. They also showed me, by example, how to live a healthy and balanced life beyond the kitchen table. Including spending quality time with close family and friends.
Hailing from the Mediterranean, this is what they knew. Traditions deeply ingrained in the culture and customs that just so happened to be beneficial for ones mental and physical health. None of which were deliberate habits, or regiments, for a specific benefit. Most certainly, vanity was very seldom considered.
As a first generation American, what I was surrounded by when I left my home was often quite different from this. Modern conveniences, practices, tactics, and personal relationships were seemingly geared more towards short term benefits. Taking away from ones overall wellness. However, America has become the land of the modern wellness industrial complex. Which does promote deliberate healthy wellness practices. In and of itself, not necessarily a bad thing.
Over the years, I have converged on an amalgam between the familial and American customs I’ve been exposed too. Forming my own unique contemporary way of life. The culture that I know and love, combined with the understanding of its short term and long term benefits when habitually practiced.
This includes one important addition. A thorough physical exercise regiment, something which is still lacking in rural parts abroad.
Roughly one third of my posts will go into detail why certain food and drink is of high quality. Both from a nutrition and flavor standpoint. Another third will be devoted to detailed descriptions of aerobic and anaerobic exercises. Plus, my overall fitness philosophies. The final third will be devoted to intellectual, spiritual, and emotional growth. Often, this will be in the form of (what I think may be entertaining) stories from my own life.
